Using Canopy Measurements to Predict Soybean Seed Yield

چکیده

Predicting soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] seed yield is of interest for crop producers to make important agronomic and economic decisions. Evaluating the canopy across a range common practices, using measurements, provides large inference producers. The individual synergistic relationships between fractional green cover (FGCC), photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) interception, normalized difference vegetative index (NDVI) measurements taken throughout growing season predict in North Dakota, USA, were investigated 12 environments. Canopy evaluated early late planting dates, 407,000 457,000 seeds ha−1 seeding rates, 0.5 0.8 relative maturities, 30.5 61 cm row spacings. single best predictor was an NDVI measurement at R5 (beginning development) with coefficient determination 0.65 followed by FGCC (R2 = 0.52). Stepwise Lasso multiple regression methods used select prediction models explaining 69% 67% variation yield, respectively. Including plant density, which can be easily measured producer, did not improve explanation yield. Using estimate explained 49% 56% variation, 0.52) being most efficient practical method producer

Canopy position has a profound effect on soybean seed composition

Although soybean seeds appear homogeneous, their composition (protein, oil and mineral concentrations) can vary significantly with the canopy position where they were produced. In studies with 10 cultivars grown over a 3-yr period, we found that seeds produced at the top of the canopy have higher concentrations of protein but less oil and lower concentrations of minerals such as Mg, Fe, and Cu ...

Impact of Soybean Viruses on Yield and Seed Quality

Soybean viruses have become more problematic in recent years due to increased prevalence of insect vectors. The appearance of the soybean aphid (Aphis glycines) in 2000 and the increasing levels of bean leaf beetle (Cerotoma trifurcata) have played important roles in increasing the range and severity of specific soybean viruses. Yield can be reduced, as well as diminished seed quality due to mo...

Soybean Seed Yield Performances under Different Cultural Practices

This study was carried out to investigate the yield response of 2 soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) cultivars to different planting dates and plant populations and to examine the relationships of seed yield with leaf area index (LAI) and total dry matter (TDM) during the vegetative and reproductive periods for planting dates, plant populations, and cultivars. Two soybean cultivars, A3127 (earl...

Nitrogen Fertilizer Effects on Soybean Growth, Yield, and Seed Composition

While previous research has been contradictory, potential grain yield responses and seed protein increases have led to con tinuing interest in N fertilizer application to soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.]. Field experiments were conducted at seven lo cations from 1990 to 1991 in Alabama to determine soybean response to N fertilization at various growth stages. Treatments included a factorial a...

Rising Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide and Seed Yield of Soybean Genotypes

ally show less seed yield response than vegetative response with a subsequent decline in apparent harvest If intraspecific variation to rising atmospheric CO2 exists in soybean index as CO2 increases (Cure and Acock, 1986; Prior [Glycine max (L.)
